The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced the commencement of applications for the 2026 Trade Licence (DV plates). This invitation is extended to all motor vehicle manufacturers, owners of vehicle repair garages, and motor vehicle traders operating in Ghana.
The call for applications is made pursuant to Section 45 of the Road Traffic Act, 2004 (Act 683) and Regulation 23 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180).
The Trade Licence (DV plates) is a mandatory requirement for businesses involved in the manufacture, sale, or repair of motor vehicles. It enables operators to legally transport, demonstrate, or test vehicles for commercial purposes, ensuring compliance with road safety and regulatory standards.
Possession of a valid trade licence also enhances a business’s credibility, financial compliance, and operational legitimacy in the eyes of clients, partners, and regulatory authorities.
Applicants are required to submit the following supporting documents:
- Valid Ghana Card
- Valid business registration certificate
- Company Registration Form A
- Evidence of renewal for expired business registration certificates, where applicable
- Valid SSNIT clearance certificate
- GRA tax clearance certificate
The DVLA urged all eligible operators to ensure that applications are complete and submitted on time. Late or incomplete submissions may result in delays in licence issuance, which could affect the legal operation of motor vehicle businesses in 2026. The deadline for submission is 12th December 2025.
“This initiative is part of the DVLA’s continued effort to strengthen compliance, regulate the vehicle trade sector effectively, and promote transparency and professionalism in Ghana’s automotive industry. Businesses are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to secure their 2026 Trade Licence and operate fully within the law.”
