The High Street Journal can confirm that the controversial London-Kumasi Direct flight is now scheduled for Friday, December 6, 2024.
This confirmation comes after several postponements of the flight which was initially scheduled for Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Although the authorities were tight-lipped about the cause of the several postponements, inquiries made by The High Street Journal suggest that the flight might have suffered low patronage.
Initially, the price for a one-way trip was US$1,000 while the round-trip was priced at US$1,650. But as of Monday, December 2, 2024, the price had been slashed to US$600 for a one-way trip and US$1,200 for a round-trip.
Sources now tell The High Street Journal that, it is now confirmed that the much-awaited historic flight is set to depart tomorrow, Friday, December 6, 2024.
This confirmed development comes after slots were allocated for the flight at Gatwick Airport which is the departure point for the flight.
The Ethiopian Airlines’ aircraft, Boeing 737-800 with registration number ET-AQO and flight number ET8719 is set to depart at Gatwick Airport in London at exactly 0430 hours.
The flight is expected to arrive in Kumasi at the Prempeh International Airport at approximately 1115am hours.
Although we can’t confirm the number of passengers on board, The High Street Journal is learning that most of the passengers who will be on board are VIPs.
This flight has been wrapped in a lot of controversies over whether the service is an operationalization of a direct flight to Kumasi or a charter service.
“There is a single charter flight arranged for 3rd December 2024 from London to Kumasi and return. It is just a charter flight,” Sean Mendez said in a written response to The High Street Journal.
He further revealed that due to the peculiarity of this flight, the flight- Boeing 737-800 which has a capacity of 189 seats will only have 80 – 120 seats.
Additionally, he said tickets cannot be bought directly from Ethiopian Airlines but only through the charter agent confirming it is a special service.
