Delta Air Lines and Amazon have signed a partnership agreement aimed at transforming air travel through enhanced digital connectivity and technology driven passenger experiences.
The collaboration will introduce high speed, low latency internet from Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network on Delta aircraft, building on the airline’s existing use of Amazon cloud services across its operations.
A statement said the initiative is designed to deliver faster, more personalised onboard experiences for passengers on both domestic and international routes, including streaming entertainment, accessing digital content, and staying connected with friends, family and work while in the air.
The upgraded system will also allow passengers to share photos and videos in real time and send work files securely before landing, without waiting for ground connectivity.
Delta Air Lines plans to begin installing the new satellite based connectivity system on about 500 aircraft starting in 2028, aiming to significantly improve its in flight Wi Fi service.
Delta Chief Executive Officer Ed Bastian said the agreement represents a major step in improving global connectivity and customer experience.
He noted that the partnership would help deepen innovation efforts and strengthen the airline’s ability to deliver more seamless travel experiences.
Amazon President and Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy said the technology is designed to expand reliable high speed internet access and improve connectivity for millions of passengers worldwide.
He added that the system would significantly enhance the in flight experience and expand what is possible for travellers in terms of communication and productivity.
The partnership builds on a long standing relationship between the two companies, with Delta already using Amazon Web Services as its preferred cloud provider.
Since 2020, Delta has migrated hundreds of applications to the cloud to improve efficiency and support new digital tools for employees and customers.
The airline has also expanded collaborations with other global brands in recent years as part of its strategy to enhance customer experience and innovation in travel services.
