The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), Statistics Denmark (SD), and the Danish Embassy in Ghana have launched Phase II of their Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) to bolster data-driven decision-making in Ghana. This phase of the partnership aims to strengthen Ghana’s National Statistical System by effectively utilizing survey and administrative data and addressing existing data gaps through digitalization.
In Phase I, the collaboration explored the use of administrative microdata, particularly with the new Ghana card, and launched the Statsbank, a statistical databank featuring open data from the 2021 Population and Housing Census. This phase also focused on green statistics, supporting Ghana’s sustainable development efforts. These initiatives provided detailed, reliable, and timely statistics, benefiting various sectors and promoting a green transition.
Phase II, which began on January 1, 2024, will continue to explore opportunities with administrative microdata through pilots, data-sharing agreements, and mapping existing data in the National Statistical System. The focus will also remain on green statistics and enhancing the capabilities of GSS staff.
The partnership’s ultimate goal is to equip policymakers with accurate information for effective decision-making, promote accountability, and support Ghana’s progress toward a sustainable future.
