The embattled traditional leader of the people of Kwuhu is yet to comment or issue a statement on the issues that led to his resignation as Board Chair of the Agriculture Development Bank (ADB). The Kwahumanhene Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong was pushed to resign following accusations of impropriety leveled against him and for which reason the Bank of Ghana felt he was unfit to continue to hold on to that position. Many of his subjects are still debating what could have pushed their young leader into this situation.
Beyond this grievous allegation leveled against him, The High Street Journal has been interacting with some natives of Kwahu to know what he represents to the community famous their unmatched entrepreneurial exploits.
Many consider the Kwahumanhene a young leader with a bold vision to unite the people of Kwahu and transform the region into a thriving hub of agriculture and tourism. He is seen as one at the forefront of efforts to reshape the region’s future.
He blends modern economic strategies with traditional values, aiming to position Kwahu as a vital player in
Ghana’s national development.
As Daasebre emphasizes, “If we want Kwahu to develop and work, we need to work with a master plan
with clear KPIs, like any well-functioning conglomerate or business concern does. Unity is key, and that is
what we must work at.” This commitment to collective progress, they say is the cornerstone of his leadership.
Strategic Leadership and Vision
Since ascending the throne, Daasebre is said to have prioritized infrastructural development, agricultural
modernization, and tourism. Leveraging the fertile Afram Plains, often referred to as Ghana’s food basket,
he has spearheaded efforts to modernize farming practices and significantly boost output. His focus on
agriculture reflects his broader ambition to make Kwahu a central player in Ghana’s food security, using
innovative techniques to increase crop yields and empower farmers. He is said to have encouraged many young people to venture into commercial farming.
But his vision doesn’t stop at agriculture. He envisions Kwahu as a premier tourist destination, drawing on
its natural beauty and strategic location. Under his leadership, the Kwahu Easter Festival has continued the transformation into a global event, attracting tourists from all over the world. With activities like paragliding and cultural exhibitions, the festival has boosted local businesses and provided employment opportunities, making it a major economic driver for the region.
His plans for better roads, a railway system, and even an airport are key to unlocking Kwahu’s potential,
creating accessibility that will encourage investment and tourism. Daasebre’s Master Development Plan,
which focuses on healthcare, education, agriculture, and tourism, is a testament to his strategic leadership.
Each sector has clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), emphasizing measurable outcomes and
sustainable development.
Challenges and Triumphs in Leadership
Taking the mantle in 2017 after years of legal battles over the chieftaincy, Daasebre is said to have quickly demonstrated his ability to lead with vision and determination. Despite lacking formal grooming for the role, he is said to have united the people of Kwahu and fostered a shared responsibility for the region’s progress.
One of the significant achievements attributed to him, is his work in healthcare, where he has overseen the renovation of clinics and supported initiatives that improve maternal and child health. In partnership with healthcare organizations, Daasebre has focused on making quality healthcare accessible to many, reflecting his holistic approach to leadership.
His efforts in education have been equally impactful. He has spearheaded the renovation of schools across Kwahu and collaborated with NGOs to provide scholarships for underprivileged students. His dedication to vocational
training has also equipped the youth with practical skills, preparing them for the workforce and ensuring
that they contribute to Kwahu’s economic growth.
Daasebre’s leadership extends beyond traditional governance. In 2021, he became Board Chairman of
the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), where he promoted agribusiness and sought to align the
bank’s operations with national development goals. His advocacy for agricultural modernization is said to have made a lasting impact on both the bank and the farming communities he represents.
A Commitment to Development and Unity
At the core of Daasebre’s leadership is his belief in unity. He established an Advisory Board that brings
together representatives from various towns in Kwahu, ensuring that development initiatives are inclusive
and address the needs of the entire region. This approach is said to have fostered a deep sense of community and
collaboration among the people of Kwahu.
His vision extends beyond local borders. He actively encourages the Kwahu diaspora to contribute to the
region’s progress, understanding that the collective efforts of those at home and abroad can drive
substantial economic growth.
Early Life and Professional Background
Born Eugene Asante Boadi on June 12, 1983, Daasebre’s rise to leadership was unconventional. Raised
in Suhum and later Accra, he attended SOS School and later St. Peter’s School in Kwahu before studying
Business Administration at the University of Ghana. His professional career began at KPMG as an audit
associate, before moving to the United States in 2009, where he earned a Master’s degree in Finance
and Investment Banking.
Daasebre’s professional journey also included a tenure at Goldfields Ghana Ltd., where he oversaw asset
verification and served as Capital Accountant. In 2013, he launched his own consultancy, offering
financial expertise across various industries—a skill set that would later prove invaluable in his leadership
role.
Key Achievements & Controversy
Some of Daasebre’s most notable accomplishments include the expansion of the Kwahu Easter Festival,
transforming it into a major international event and an economic booster for the region. He has also been
instrumental in the modernization of agriculture in the Afram Plains, increasing food production and
supporting farmers with new techniques and resources. Additionally, his leadership has brought significant
healthcare improvements, including the renovation of clinics and the promotion of health campaigns. In the
field of education, Daasebre has spearheaded the renovation of schools, supported scholarships for
students, and introduced vocational training for the youth. Furthermore, he has been a strong advocate for
environmental sustainability, particularly in his efforts to tackle illegal mining (galamsey) and protect
Kwahu’s natural resources.
Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II now finds himself at the center of controversy, facing allegations of
financial misconduct related to a GH¢ 2 million loan transaction during his tenure as Board Chairman of the
Agricultural Development Bank (ADB). The Bank of Ghana has since asked him to step down, citing
potential reputational concerns. The accusations stem from a customer’s claim that Daasebre demanded
personal payments in exchange for loan approvals.
However, in light of these allegations, his side of the story is not known. Without hearing
from him,his community is left with a single narrative—one that may not fully reflect the complexities of the
situation. His significant contributions to Kwahu’s development in agriculture, tourism, and healthcare
cannot be overlooked, and many are hoping that there will be official response from him. Only then can the people arrive at a fair and balanced understanding of the matter.
