The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) is set to embark on nationwide consultations to shape Ghana’s sustainable development strategy amid a rapidly changing global economy. The consultations will run from 18th February to 27th March 2026 and will engage both regional and national stakeholders to discuss opportunities and challenges for the country’s growth.
According to the NDPC, the consultations will be spearheaded by its chairman, Nii Moi Thompson, and are designed to explore “the prospects of pursuing sustainable development in Ghana at a time of rapid changes in the world economy that have created new challenges and opportunities for developing countries like Ghana.”
The initiative comes as Ghana’s economy enjoys notable improvements in macroeconomic indicators, including declines in inflation and interest rates, alongside a historic appreciation of the cedi against the US dollar. These gains have been supported by rising commodity prices, especially gold, and extensive fiscal reforms by the Ministry of Finance that have reduced wasteful government spending.
The NDPC plans to base its consultations on local economic development, recognizing it as a foundation for national progress. Regional discussions will involve the 16 regional coordinating councils, various houses of chiefs, and local stakeholders. Following these, the Commission will also engage parliamentary leaders and political parties on matters such as guidance for party manifestos through a policy and legislative almanac, results-based management, and insights into the post-war global economy and its implications for Ghana.
Accompanying Thompson will be Audrey Smock Amoah, Director-General of the NDPC, and senior policy analysts from the Commission. Each stop will also include the region’s current NDPC representative, ensuring local perspectives are incorporated into the discussions.
The nationwide consultations highlight a major step in Ghana’s efforts to consolidate economic gains, strengthen governance, and prepare for resilient and inclusive growth. Through this process, the NDPC will ensure that community priorities are reflected in national development strategies, helping Ghana navigate global challenges while taking advantage of emerging opportunities.
