Ghana’s domestic airline, PassiorAir, has been hit by a major operational disruption, causing flight cancellations and delays.
Although PassionAir did not specify the kind of operational challenges it is experiencing, it stated that the challenge has affected its entire route network.
While the airline assures passengers that safety and service remain its top priorities, the immediate fallout is already being felt by travellers, small businesses, and sectors that depend heavily on timely domestic air transport.

For domestic air travellers, the disruptions mean missed meetings, cancelled workshops, and long hours spent trying to rebook critical flights.
Furthermore, aside from the impact on individual travellers, the disruption runs deeper into the domestic economy. The situation underscores how much some businesses rely on efficient domestic air travel to function smoothly.
The situation is more glaring given the poor road and railway network in the country, making travel by road a herculean task. Travels that are supposed to take a few minutes or a few hours can take many hours due to a poor road network and heavy traffic.
Business executives, entrepreneurs, and traders flying to the northern and middle regions, due to the disruption, have been thrown off balance, leading to delays, sales lost, and business opportunities missed.
“PassionAir is currently experiencing operational affecting our entire route network. As a result, some flights have been cancelled while others are experiencing delays,” a statement from the company on Thursday noted.

PassionAir, for its part, says its team is working diligently to fix the underlying operational challenges and restore normal services as soon as possible. The airline acknowledges the frustration passengers are feeling, emphasizing that their safety and well-being remain the guiding priority.
It statement added, “we apologize to our passengers who have been inconvenienced by these disruptions. We fully understand the frustration and inconvenience this has caused, and the potential impact on your travel plans.”
The disruptions expose the fragility of Ghana’s domestic aviation ecosystem. With a small number of carriers operating on high-demand routes, any service interruption can create a bottleneck that affects mobility, commerce, and planning nationwide.
The situation also underscores the urgent need for stronger resilience in the sector, better fleet maintenance strategies, backup aircraft, and firmer supply chain arrangements.
