Corporate Ghana has increased financial support for the national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with major firms making fresh contributions to a government-backed fundraising initiative aimed at strengthening preparations for the global tournament.
Ghana Gas Company Limited led the latest round of donations by redeeming a pledge of GH¢5 million, followed by Ecobank Ghana, which contributed GH¢3 million. Zijin Golden Ridge Limited donated GH¢1.13 million, while Absa Bank Ghana provided GH¢1 million.

The contributions were presented at the Ministry of Finance to the Deputy Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Black Stars World Cup Fundraising Committee, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, who described the support as a sign of strong national backing for the team.
He also received a symbolic GH¢250,000 donation from OmniBSIC Bank during the event.

Ampem thanked the companies for their contributions and urged other pledgers to honour their commitments ahead of the tournament, adding that additional donations were still welcome before the end of the month.
The fundraising effort forms part of a broader initiative launched in March by President John Dramani Mahama, which aims to raise $30 million from corporations and the public to support the Black Stars’ World Cup campaign.
The Ministry of Finance said it will continue to receive donations and pledges every Thursday as part of a structured mobilization effort targeting both corporate entities and individuals.

With less than a month to the tournament, the increased inflows underscore growing private sector involvement in national sports financing, as government seeks to supplement public resources with corporate support for international competition.

The 2026 World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, marking the first expanded 48-team edition of the tournament and intensifying preparations among qualified nations.
