Ghana and Germany are expanding efforts to increase women’s participation in the construction industry through a skills development program aimed at addressing labor shortages, improving employability and supporting inclusive economic growth.
The Female Talents in Construction (FTC) Project, implemented by German Development Cooperation in partnership with the Ghana TVET Service and the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHK), is equipping women and young graduates with technical skills, industry certification and practical support to pursue careers in the construction sector.
The initiative seeks to strengthen Ghana’s technical and vocational education system to meet growing demand for skilled labour in infrastructure and industrial development while improving employment opportunities for women in traditionally male-dominated sectors.
The German Development Cooperation notes that the project is designed to strengthen Ghana’s construction industry by expanding access to quality technical training and creating pathways into employment.
The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Ghana TVET Service under Germany’s Invest for Jobs initiative, part of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (BMZ) “Decent Work for a Just Transition” program, implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
The initiative reflects broader cooperation between Ghana and Germany to strengthen workforce development, improve private-sector competitiveness and create sustainable employment through technical and vocational skills training.
