Cassava Technologies, a global technology company of African heritage, has announced a strategic partnership with Google to expand access to Gemini, Google’s advanced artificial intelligence (AI) platform, across the African continent.
The collaboration is designed to remove two major barriers to AI adoption, cost and data consumption, for consumers and businesses. It introduces two key offers, a six-month extended trial of the Google AI Plus plan, and data-free access to the Gemini app through Cassava’s network of technology service providers.
The AI Plus plan includes access to Google’s most capable Gemini models, 200 GB of cloud storage, video generation tools, Gemini integration in Gmail and Docs, and higher image generation limits.
Hardy Pemhiwa, President and Group CEO of Cassava Technologies, said the partnership represents a shared commitment to democratizing access to digital innovation across Africa.
“We’re proud to partner with Google to democratise access to digital solutions that empower people and businesses. This partnership underscores a shared vision to make AI more inclusive, accessible, and impactful across Africa’s rapidly digitising economies. It’s about shaping a smarter, more connected, and more competitive Africa,” Pemhiwa said.
Google executives echoed the significance of the partnership in addressing Africa’s digital accessibility challenges.
“Our goal is to make Gemini helpful for everyone. By partnering with Cassava, we’re removing significant barriers to AI adoption across Africa, specifically cost and connectivity. This collaboration should help bring the full potential of Gemini to millions of people, empowering them to learn, build, and create without worrying about data consumption,” said Josh Woodward, VP, Google Labs, Gemini & AI Studio.
The initiative will allow individuals, institutions, and enterprises to access Gemini 2.5 Pro, Deep Research capabilities, Veo 3.1 Fast video generation, NotebookLM for advanced insights, and Flow, Google’s generative video tool for filmmaking, all as part of the six-month trial period.
By leveraging Cassava’s vast partner network and Google’s AI ecosystem, the collaboration aims to broaden digital inclusion and accelerate AI-driven transformation across African economies.
