President Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi of the Republic of Botswana has declared an afternoon holiday for all residents of the country today, August 9th, 2024. The decision comes as a tribute to Letsile Tebogo, who has been hailed as “Botswana’s Sensation” after his extraordinary achievement at the Olympic Games.
Letsile Tebogo, track and field athlete, made history by becoming the first African to win a gold medal in the 200-meter race at the Olympics. This remarkable feat has not only placed him on the global athletic stage but has also made him a symbol of national pride.
In the official press release, President Masisi said that Tebogo’s performance is well deserving of an applause from the nation. He noted that this historic victory is not just a personal achievement for Tebogo, warranting a collective pause to celebrate.
