The Volta Region is set to become a major tourism hub under the leadership of Mr. James Gunu, the Minister-designate for the region. Gunu assured Parliament’s Appointments Committee that he would collaborate closely with the Minister of Tourism and other agencies to maximize the region’s tourism potential and boost revenue for national development.
Highlighting the region’s fascinating topography and numerous tourist attractions, Gunu emphasized his intention to explore these resources to drive local economic growth. He pledged to focus on building the capacities of local assemblies in areas such as budgeting, planning, and project evaluation to enhance internally-generated funds.
When asked about addressing the region’s challenges with sea erosion, Gunu expressed his commitment to work with relevant ministries and agencies to tackle the recurring tidal waves that threaten the coastal areas.
Gunu also outlined his plans for conflict resolution in the region, proposing the establishment of a Conflict Resolution Committee. This committee would include traditional authorities, Members of Parliament, District Chief Executives, and other stakeholders to mediate disputes and promote peace in the region.
