Alfort Petroleum is ramping up its onshore strategy in Angola, confirming its role as a Gold Sponsor of the Angola Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition 2026 while advancing plans to drill its KON 8 block in the Kwanza Basin.
The company, operator of Blocks KON 5 and KON 8, is preparing to submit a detailed well proposal for KON 8 in the second quarter of 2026. The proposal will be presented to the National Oil, Gas & Biofuels Agency and joint venture partners for approval, marking a key step toward drilling.
Momentum has been building since 2025, when Alfort completed a seismic data acquisition campaign across the KON 8 block. The results are now being used to refine exploration targets and guide the design and execution of the planned well.
The upcoming drilling campaign signals a shift from early-stage exploration to operational activity, positioning the company to tap into the hydrocarbon potential of Angola’s onshore basins.
While offshore projects continue to dominate output, attention is gradually turning to onshore regions such as the Kwanza Basin. These areas are drawing interest from independent operators seeking to unlock underexplored resources using improved seismic imaging and targeted drilling.
Alfort secured operatorship of the KON blocks following Angola’s 2015 licensing round and later strengthened its position with a production sharing contract for KON 8 in 2022. Its current push toward drilling reflects a broader effort to move projects toward execution.
The company’s participation at AOG 2026, scheduled for September 9–10, with a pre-conference day on September 8, offers a platform to engage industry stakeholders while highlighting progress on its onshore portfolio.
Developments at KON 8 are expected to be closely watched as Angola continues efforts to sustain production and diversify its upstream activity.
