Africa No Filter (ANF) has announced the formation of its first-ever Council, marking a major step as the organisation expands its reach and influence across the continent and beyond.
The Council brings together eight accomplished leaders from media, finance, law, advocacy, and philanthropy. Their role is to guide ANF as it moves into a new era as an independent, African-led organisation, registered in Mauritius after five years as a U.S.-based project.
Executive Director Moky Makura said the Council will help sharpen strategic direction and strengthen governance. “These are people who understand the stakes, believe in Africa’s potential, and are committed to ensuring that Africa tells its own, more truthful story,” she said.
Over the past five years, ANF has invested over US$7.5 million into the African creative and media ecosystem, supporting storytellers, researchers, and platforms that challenge outdated portrayals of the continent. Its work has attracted major funders, including the Gates Foundation, Mastercard Foundation, Ford Foundation, and Luminate.
The Council members include media strategist Richard Addy, advocacy leader Yacine Djibo, entrepreneur Nicolas Pompigne-Mognard, and legal expert Anshi Saminaden, among others. Each member brings unique expertise, united by a commitment to ensure Africa’s narratives are told by Africans, authentically and accurately.
“Strong governance and authentic storytelling are key to unlocking investment, fostering innovation, and transforming Africa’s economic and social prospects,” said Council members, highlighting the strategic importance of the initiative.
With the new Council in place, Africa No Filter signals a bold step forward in its mission to shift global perceptions, amplify African voices, and promote narratives that reflect the continent’s creativity, progress, and opportunities.
