Afreximbank, in partnership with the AfCFTA Secretariat, will tomorrow host a high-level side event aimed at accelerating the implementation of Africa’s digital trade agenda.
The session, taking place on the sidelines of the Afreximbank Annual Meetings, will highlight the role of trusted digital infrastructure in unlocking cross-border trade and supporting the continent’s broader economic transformation.
Set for June 26, 2025, from 11:05 a.m. to 1:35 p.m. at the Afreximbank African Trade Centre (AATC) Building in Accra, the forum will explore the theme “Building Resilient Economies Through the AfCFTA Protocol on Digital Trade: Empowering Trade with Trusted Identity (AEI) and the Africa Trade Gateway (ATG).”
The event will also bring together key stakeholders in digital commerce, trade facilitation, and economic policy for a series of strategic conversations focused on enhancing Africa’s digital economy.
Central to the discussions will be the AfCFTA Protocol on Digital Trade, which outlines a framework for harmonized regulation, secure digital payments, interoperable identities, and trusted data flows across the continent. The protocol is seen as a critical pillar in Africa’s efforts to modernize trade and increase competitiveness in the global digital economy.
The event will also feature practical case studies on the early implementation of two strategic initiatives: the Africa Entity Identifier (AEI) and the Africa Trade Gateway (ATG). The AEI provides a continent-wide digital identity system aimed at fostering transparency and efficiency in cross-border transactions, while the ATG serves as a digital infrastructure that supports regulatory compliance, seamless trade transactions, and deeper market integration.
