The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has launched a collaborative initiative with the National Insurance Commission (NIC) to train 500 young Ghanaians as certified insurance agents, marking a significant step toward youth empowerment and improved insurance sector participation.
The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by YEA Chief Executive Officer Malik Basintale and the Commissioner of Insurance, Dr. Abiba Zakaria.
The agreement outlines a shared commitment to equipping Ghanaian youth with practical skills while strengthening the country’s compulsory insurance policy implementation framework.
Training will be conducted by the Ghana Insurance College, the country’s premier institution for professional insurance education. The program will offer in-depth instruction to prepare participants for certification and careers within the insurance industry.
According to both agencies, the initiative is designed not only to reduce unemployment but also to boost public confidence and participation in insurance.
By increasing the number of trained professionals, the program aims to expand insurance penetration and raise awareness about the importance of insurance in protecting livelihoods and property.
“This partnership is a strategic move to ensure that young people are not only employable but also part of Ghana’s ongoing economic transformation,” said Basintale.
Dr. Zakaria emphasized that building a skilled and knowledgeable workforce is crucial for ensuring compliance with insurance regulations and enhancing the sector’s contribution to national development.
The YEA-NIC initiative is part of broader government efforts to improve economic resilience by investing in human capital development.
It also supports the NIC’s mandate to enforce mandatory insurance compliance and foster sustainable growth within the industry.
