The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Mr Samuel Nartey George, has directed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to take immediate enforcement action against six radio stations for operating without valid frequency authorizations.
In a press statement issued by the Ministry, the operations of the radio stations violate Section 2(4) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), which mandates that no entity shall operate a broadcasting service without proper authorization from the NCA.
The stations are Fire Group of Companies, I-Zar Consult, Abochannel Media Group, Okyeame Radio, Mumen Bono Foundation, and Osikani Community FM.
“These entities have failed to renew their authorizations, fulfill statutory payment obligations, or submit the required documentation within the stipulated timeframe.
“As a result, their authorizations have lapsed by operation of law, rendering their continued operations illegal,” the statement said.
The Ministry reiterated that the enforcement action is necessary to ensure compliance with broadcasting regulations and maintain order within the media landscape.
It further urged all broadcasting entities to adhere strictly to licensing requirements to avoid similar sanctions.
