The High Court has granted Counsel for the first accused, Mr. Samuel Atta Akyea, additional time to file any written address he may deem necessary before judgment is delivered in the Samreboi illegal mining case.
The ruling follows arguments by both the Defence and the Prosecution on an application seeking a deferment of judgment after Mr. Atta Akyea took over the defence of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Although the Attorney General had strongly opposed the application, contending that the request was an abuse of the court’s process and intended to delay the administration of justice, the Court exercised its discretion in favour of the Defence.
The Court consequently extended the time for the Defence to file any written address from today until 13 July 2026.
As a result, the date for judgment has been rescheduled. The Court will now deliver its judgment on 20 July 2026 at 9:00 a.m.
The matter is expected to determine the criminal charges arising from the alleged illegal mining activities at Samreboi.
