Global Affairs Canada has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women and farmers with disabilities in Ghana’s agricultural sector through continued support for the Women in Food and Agricultural Leadership Training Forum (WOFAGRIC) and the Gold in the Soil Awards, both spearheaded by the Agrihouse Foundation.
Marking the seventh consecutive year of partnership, Canada will serve as the official Program Partner for this year’s event, set for July 9, 2025, in the Central Region.
The two-day programme aims to advance gender inclusion, strengthen agribusiness leadership, and promote economic resilience among rural women.
The initiative forms part of Canada’s broader international assistance programming in Ghana, which prioritizes inclusive economic growth and gender equality, particularly in agriculture, a sector where women face longstanding barriers to land access, financing, training, and technology.
“Canada is proud to continue supporting Agrihouse Foundation’s WOFAGRIC and the Gold in the Soil Awards. These initiatives offer inclusive platforms for rural women to connect, learn, and be celebrated,” said Mr. Mathieu Lacasse, Second Secretary at the High Commission of Canada to Ghana and lead for the agriculture sector.
“Farming and agro-processing demand resilience. Through shared learning and recognition, these events empower women to overcome challenges and step into leadership roles within their communities,” he added.
WOFAGRIC and the Gold in the Soil Awards have directly impacted over 5,000 rural women in agribusiness across Ghana’s regions, and indirectly benefited more than 55,000 people through mentorship, skills training, and capacity-building activities. Past events have been held in the Volta, Ashanti, Upper East, Upper West, Western, Western North, Eastern, and Bono Regions.
The 2025 forum is expected to welcome 650 participants, including women farmers, agro-processors, agripreneurs, extension officers, and policy advocates.
Day One will feature hands-on training and tailored business development sessions, while Day Two will highlight the Gold in the Soil Awards, recognition platform celebrating outstanding contributions across 17 award categories.
Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, praised the ongoing collaboration with Global Affairs Canada as a model of shared commitment to sustainable agriculture and inclusive development.
“This partnership is more than funding, it’s a strategic alliance for impact, by offering women and marginalized farmers visibility, skills, and voice, we are redefining the narrative around agriculture and gender in Ghana,” she said.
