We are still in the New Year festivities but not for traders at the Kantamanto market in Accra. These traders are counting their losses after a fire outbreak ravaged almost the entire market on Thursday dawn destroying shops and goods worth of millions of cedis. The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed.

Still in the new year celebrations, The High Street Journal can confirm that inflation and high demand have resulted in soaring prices of poultry birds. This has dampened the festivities for some low-income households who cannot afford the traditional meals.
At long last the much awaited 2025 Expenditure in Advance of Appropriation was presented to parliament on Thursday by the Finance Minister after weeks of stalemate led to the suspension of sitting. Finance Minister is seeking approval for GHC 68.1 Billion to pay workers’ salaries and other statutory payments.

Ghana’s cocoa woes continues as the outbreak of the blackpod disease is threatening yield which is likely to erode the struggles and investments of farmers. Already, COCOBOD has revised downwards it yield target due to the impact of galamsey and unfavourable weather putting the country’s cocoa revenues at risk.
Despite the fast-paced digital age, some Ghanaians are still clinging into susu boxes as their preferred means of savings as 2025 kick starts. This has led to a booming business for manufacturers and retailers of these wooden and metallic susu boxes signifying an earnest desire of some Ghanaians to save despite economic uncertainties and inflation.
This week also in an interesting events witnessed the closure of McDan Aviation’s private jet terminal at the Kotoka International Airport over an alleged $3 million debt. However, McDan in a separate statement denied the said allegation insisting that they are erroneous since payments have stalled due to an ongoing court proceedings.
