Waymo is now providing more than 100,000 paid robotaxi rides every week across its main commercial markets in the United States including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Phoenix.
This milestone was shared by Waymo co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana in a social media post on X, marking a significant increase from the 50,000 rides previously disclosed by the company. Waymo has achieved this growth with a fleet of fully autonomous and electric Jaguar I-Pace vehicles, although specific fleet numbers remain undisclosed.
A Freedom of Information Act request from the California Department of Revenue revealed that Waymo has 778 robotaxis operating under its deployment permit in the state.

While Waymo has maintained a presence in Phoenix, its most notable expansion has been in California, where it received permits to operate a commercial robotaxi service last August. Since then, the company has expanded to offer 24/7 service throughout San Francisco and is moving into new areas of Los Angeles and the San Francisco Peninsula. It has also started testing fully autonomous rides on local freeways and is working towards offering pickup and drop-off services at San Francisco International Airport.
Waymo also operates in Austin but has yet to start charging for rides there. Although commercial expansion is generating revenue, Alphabet, Waymo’s parent company, has disclosed plans to spend an additional $5 billion on its self-driving subsidiary over the next few years.
