The Volta Regional Coordinating Council has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Belt and Road Environmental Technology Exchange and Transfer Center, based in Shenzhen, China, to drive green investment, technology transfer, and bilateral trade opportunities.
The agreement, signed at the Residency in Ho by Volta Regional Minister James Gunu, establishes a framework for cooperation between the Volta Region and the Shenzhen-based center. It aims to promote sustainable investment, support joint projects, and advance environmentally sound development under the Green Belt and Road Initiative.

Key areas of collaboration include information sharing on investment and policy intelligence, participation in international exhibitions and trade forums, facilitation of business missions for government and private sector delegations, and direct support for bilateral trade and investment projects.

“This milestone marks a new era of strategic partnerships for the Volta Region, positioning us as a credible destination for real investment. The message is clear: Volta cannot miss it again. Volta is open for business,” Mr. Gunu said after the signing.
The agreement builds on initiatives spearheaded by Dr. Elikplim Apetorgbor, Commissioner and Volta representative to the National Development Planning Commission, under the Volta Economic Embassy and Volta Economic Forum platforms.

Regional officials say the partnership is expected to open market access for Volta-based businesses in Asia, while providing opportunities for Chinese investors to explore projects in renewable energy, agriculture, and infrastructure in Ghana’s eastern corridor.
Observers note that the deal positions the Volta Region to attract more sustainable investment at a time when Ghana is seeking to diversify its economy and strengthen its ties. The region is also set to witness the sod cutting ceremony for the reconstruction of the Ho-Denu road, a major trade route.
