United Airlines has announced a significant expansion of its Accra-Washington D.C. route, increasing its service from three weekly flights to daily operations. This change represents a 62% year-over-year rise in seating capacity, solidifying the airline’s standing as a key U.S. carrier in the Ghanaian market.
With this development, United Airlines remains the only carrier providing nonstop flights between Accra and Washington D.C. Additionally, it offers more one-stop connections from Ghana to various destinations across the United States than any other American airline.
This move aligns with United’s growing investment in Africa. The airline has revealed plans to launch a new route connecting Dakar, Senegal, to Washington D.C. in 2025 (pending government approval) and has recently introduced seasonal services between Marrakesh, Morocco, and New York/Newark.

“Africa continues to be an integral part of United’s global network, and we are delighted to announce an increase in flights from Accra to Washington DC,” said Oluwatomi Bola-Sadipe, United’s Country Sales Manager for Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa.
The Accra-Washington route utilizes Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, featuring:
28 PolarisSM Business Class Seats
21 Premium PlusSM Premium Economy Seats
36 Economy PlusSM Seats
158 Standard Economy Seats
