The University for Development Studies (UDS) and partners have been honoured with two prestigious awards at the prestigious National Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Awards Ceremony in the United Kingdom. They picked up The Best African Agriculture Knowledge Transfer Project and The Global Impact Award.
UDS in collaboration Savannah & Sahel Commodities, and the University of York, together bagged the prestigious awards. These awards recognize UDS’ exceptional contributions to agricultural innovation and impactful research, marking a significant milestone in its mission to advance development-focused education and community engagement.

Led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Seidu Al-hassan, the UDS delegation that went for the ceremony included Prof. Mamudu A. Akudugu, Director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research; Senyo Kpelly, CEO of Savannah and Sahel Commodities Ltd.; and Valentine Acharibasam, Knowledge Transfer Associate for UDS and SSCL. Their collective efforts highlight the university’s commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships between academia and industry.
The Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme, spearheaded by Innovate UK, facilitates collaborations aimed at solving societal and industrial challenges. UDS’ recognition underscores its pivotal role in advancing agriculture and food security across Africa through sustainable and climate-resilient farming practices.
Prior to the awards, Prof. Seidu Al-hassan spoke on the prospects of the awards at UDS’ 25th Congregation ceremony, held on November 9 this year, where he lauded the university’s achievements, emphasizing the importance of innovative solutions in addressing Africa’s agricultural challenges.
“This award is a testament to our dedication to innovative solutions that address the unique agricultural challenges facing our communities. It also reinforces our reputation as a leader in development-focused research and community engagement,” the Vice Chancellor remarked.
