U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to host the presidents of Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, and Senegal in Washington, D.C. from July 9 to 11, according to a report by Semafor.
If confirmed, the meeting will mark President Trump’s first high-level summit with African leaders since beginning his second term. The discussions are expected to center around economic cooperation, particularly U.S. investment in West Africa’s critical minerals sector, as well as strategies to strengthen regional security.
The planned summit signals renewed American engagement with Africa under Trump’s leadership, with a larger U.S.-Africa summit being prepared for September in New York.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda signed a historic peace agreement in Washington last Friday, aiming to end more than three decades of conflict in the Great Lakes region, another development highlighting America’s growing diplomatic involvement in Africa.
