The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry has assured the public that the price of sachet water will remain unchanged, following intervention to halt a planned increase by producers.
The decision comes after a meeting between the Ministry, the Ghana Plastic Manufacturers Association (GPMA) and the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP).
In a press statement, the Ministry confirmed that the proposed price adjustment, which was expected to take effect on Monday, April 6, 2026, has been suspended after consultations with industry stakeholders.
“Consumers can continue to purchase sachet water at the current price,” the Ministry stated, emphasising its commitment to protecting consumers from sudden price hikes.
The Ministry commended both GPMA and NASPAWAP for their cooperation in halting the increase, noting that the decision reflects a shared commitment to ensuring market stability and affordability of essential goods.
Sachet water remains a primary source of drinking water for many households across the country, making price stability in the sector critical to household welfare.
The intervention, according to the Ministry, is aimed at cushioning consumers against rising living costs while maintaining stability in the market.
It further indicated that additional stakeholder engagements will be held to address underlying challenges within the sachet water production value chain, including input costs and operational pressures faced by producers.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with manufacturers and industry players to find sustainable solutions that balance business sustainability with consumer protection.
Industry observers say the move highlights government’s increasing focus on price monitoring and intervention in essential goods markets, particularly in a period of improving macroeconomic stability.
They note that while cost pressures remain within the manufacturing sector, dialogue between government and industry players will be key to preventing disruptions and ensuring continued supply.
The Ministry assured that it will continue to engage stakeholders to maintain affordability and stability in the pricing of sachet water and other essential commodities.
