The Tema Development Company (TDC) Limited has accused the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Tema Central Constituency Secretary, who previously served as a protocol officer to a former TDC Managing Director, of allegedly illegally selling public land in Tema Community 5 to his wife for GH₵2,000.
According to TDC, the parcel of land, located behind Tema Secondary School, was originally designated for a public toilet facility. The company says the matter came to light during ongoing efforts to recover illegally acquired lands as part of its infrastructure and housing development mandate.
According to TDC’s Managing Director, Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, an internal investigation led to the termination of the officer’s contract.
“The NPP Tema Central Constituency Secretary sold that place to the wife at the cost of GH₵2000. The documents are with me, I can make it available. When I went into the matter I said no way. I engaged the woman and I terminated the contract,” Mr. Nunekpeku stated.
He added, “I am not grabbing any land, I am just doing the right thing for the Ghanaian. I terminated that contract and now the place is for the state to be used as a public toilet.”
On a related issue, Mr. Nunekpeku responded to allegations by the Peaceful Settlers’ Association against the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, which the group accused of attempting to seize lands despite a court injunction. He said TDC is engaging all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful resolution.
