Independent Power Producer Sunon-Asogli has come online after over a month of shutdown following an impasse between the private power generator and the government over outstanding debts.
The High Street Journal can confirm that Sunon Asogli has begun operations again this afternoon after the government made some partial payments of its debt to the IPP.
In addition, the two parties are expected to agree on terms for the repayment of the remaining debts.
However, sources tell The High Street Journal the IPP has also resolved to shut down again should the government fail to honour its part of the agreement on the repayment of the legacy debt.
Sunon Asogli Power Ltd. shut down its operations in October due to ECG’s inability to settle an outstanding debt of $259 million.

The company, in shutting down explained that it was necessary as it could no longer sustain operations without the overdue payments being honoured.
Meanwhile, the Finance Minister, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam had earlier announced that Ghana’s power supply is expected to stabilise following a renegotiated agreement between the government and Sunon Asogli.

With the coming online of the 560MW power plant, the nation’s power capacity has been augmented.
It is therefore the anticipation of Ghanaians that the intermittent power challenges experienced in recent days will be halted for the free flow of businesses that heavily depend on power.
