The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has launched its Virtual Branch, a digital platform aimed at modernising public service delivery and extending pension access to all workers, including those in the gig and informal sectors.
The launch, was officiated by the Deputy Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Mohammed Adam Sukparu, who spoke on behalf of the Sector Minister, Samuel Nartey George.
Describing the initiative as a major step in building an inclusive, technology-driven economy, the Deputy Minister said the Virtual Branch aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy and National Reset agenda. He noted that the platform ensures essential services are accessible conveniently, efficiently, and with dignity, anytime and anywhere, responding to the realities of a rapidly evolving world of work.

According to the deputy minister, growth in the gig economy, remote work, and digital freelancing requires pension institutions to meet contributors where they are, on mobile devices and digital platforms, adding that the SSNIT Virtual Branch positions the Scheme to remain relevant to a new generation of workers.”
The platform aims to bring freelancers, artisans, small business owners, and digital creators closer to the pension system, increasing convenience, transparency, and confidence in SSNIT. It also integrates with government initiatives in digital infrastructure, including broadband expansion, cybersecurity enhancements, digital identification, and interoperability across public platforms.
Highlighting the importance of a strong pension system for national stability, the Deputy Minister said the Virtual Branch reinforces trust in SSNIT by assuring contributors that their funds are managed responsibly and that their future is secured.

He commended SSNIT’s Board, management, and staff for embracing innovation and urged organised labour, employers, and the media to promote the platform and encourage all workers, particularly in the informal sector, to begin contributing to the Scheme as soon as they start earning.
The launch includes SSNIT at the forefront of digital transformation in public service, reflecting government’s commitment to leveraging technology to deliver inclusive social protection across Ghana.
