Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) has formally petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), alleging bias, abuse of power, and a personal vendetta.
The petition, officially submitted and stamped by CHRAJ, names lead investigator Albert Akurugu and suggests that the OSP’s actions have gone beyond the bounds of lawful investigation.
SML claims the office conducted raids on its premises, threatened staff during interrogations, and destroyed critical technical infrastructure, severely impacting the company’s operations and reputation.
According to the petition, SML also accuses the OSP of favoritism toward a competitor, West Blue, whose systems SML had audited. The firm asserts that the investigation appeared to protect West Blue’s interests rather than follow impartial procedures.
“Our company has been subjected to actions that appear motivated by personal animosity rather than objective legal considerations,” SML stated in the petition. “The conduct of the OSP has disrupted our operations and raised serious concerns about fairness and transparency in investigative processes.”
SML is now urging CHRAJ to investigate the allegations, review the OSP’s procedures, and determine if the Special Prosecutor himself was involved in the misconduct.
The case raises broader questions about accountability and the balance of power within Ghana’s institutions tasked with fighting corruption. Observers note that ensuring impartiality in high-profile investigations is essential for maintaining public trust in anti-corruption bodies and the wider business environment.
The OSP has not yet responded to the petition or the claims made by SML. CHRAJ is expected to review the submission and provide guidance on the next steps.
