The National Film Authority (NFA) of Ghana has launched the “Sell Ghana to Ghana” campaign, aiming to boost the local creative economy by promoting Ghanaian-made films, animations, and games during Ghana Cinema Week 2024 (December 14-22). This initiative encourages Ghanaians to consume more locally produced content, thereby keeping cultural and financial benefits within the country. With Ghanaians spending over $60 million on mobile games in 2022, the NFA is focused on redirecting that expenditure into the local industry, supporting job creation, and increasing national pride.
The campaign spotlights sectors like animation and gaming, often overlooked but holding immense potential. By advocating for the consumption of Ghanaian animations and games, the NFA aims to stimulate economic growth within the local creative sectors and elevate Ghana’s influence through cultural exports. Additionally, the event “CINEKIDS,” scheduled during the Ghana Cinema Week, will offer children a platform to engage with Ghanaian-made content, fostering a connection to their cultural heritage from a young age.

This strategic campaign not only enhances entertainment but also strengthens the creative economy by retaining financial resources domestically and building national identity through cinema. It represents a long-term effort to establish Ghana as a competitive player in Africa’s burgeoning creative economy.
By focusing on internal consumption, the NFA aims to pave the way for a more self-sustaining creative ecosystem while positioning local content for future global opportunities.
