The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has confirmed that the official X account of President John Dramani Mahama had been compromised and used to promote a cryptocurrency firm called “Solana Africa.”
The President’s account appeared to have been hacked over the weekend as some X users had alluded to the takeover.
“In the early hours of Monday, March 17, 2025, the Cyber Security Authority received a report concerning the compromise of the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama’s X account; @JDMahama. The account has been used to promote a cryptocurrency called “Solana Africa,” the CSA said in a statement on Tuesday.
The Authority assured the public that it is actively investigating the breach and working with X and other relevant stakeholders to resolve the issue and prevent future incidents. “We understand the public concern this incident has generated and are actively addressing the situation,” it stated.
Meanwhile Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu on Monday evening also confirmed the account breach and said on a Star FM programme that “efforts are on the way to recover it, and it should be recovered in a moment from now.”
On Tuesday morning, the President’s X account tweeted: “My team has restored my account, working with the X support team. Thank you for your enquiries and offers to assist.”
Nonetheless, the hack has raised alarms among concerned citizens, with many questioning the security measures in place for the accounts of high-profile political figures.
