Just 17 days to the 2024 General Elections, President Akufo-Addo has appointed the acting Minister of Energy, Herbert Krapa as the substantive Minister for the sector.
This was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, by the Communications Directorate of the Jubilee House signed by the Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin. The appointment, according to the release took effect yesterday, Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
Justifying the appointment which comes less than three weeks to a crucial general election, President Akufo Addo noted that Mr. Herbert Krapa has been exceptional and diligent in the discharge of his duties hence the decision to regularize his appointment.
Mr. Krapa, the statement said, “has demonstrated exceptional diligence, professionalism, and a steadfast commitment to his duties, contributing significantly to the progress and stability of Ghana’s energy sector.”
Herbert Krapa succeeded the former Minister for Energy, who’s now running mate of the NPP, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, as a Minister of State on July 15, 2024.
Four months into his role as acting Minister of State at the Energy Ministry, the President says this appointment is in recognition of his hard work and leadership, insisting that he is confident Mr. Krapa will continue to distinguish himself in his new role ensuring the continued growth and transformation of the energy sector in service to the nation.
The appointment has generated a huge backlash considering the time left for this government’s tenure to end. It also comes at a time when Parliament has been indefinitely suspended hence vetting by the Appointments Committee may likely not happen.
