The Public Accounts Committee (PAC), working in close collaboration with the Auditor-General’s Department, has announced the recovery of more than GH¢12.9 billion in misappropriated public funds.
The recovery follows a series of engagements with officials of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) cited for financial infractions in the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report.
Chairperson of the Committee, Abena Osei-Asare, said the results demonstrated the impact of strong accountability mechanisms in ensuring the protection of public resources.
“What we are doing is yielding positive results. With the support of the Auditor-General, we have been able to retrieve GH¢12.9 billion. There is a full report on this, which we will share with the public at the appropriate time,” she said.
The PAC has, in recent weeks, been scrutinising financial irregularities raised by the Auditor-General, pressing MDAs to provide explanations and ensure compliance with financial management laws.
Abena Osei-Asare reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to pursuing accountability in the management of state resources, adding that the recoveries serve as a signal of deterrence to institutions that fall short of compliance.
The Committee is scheduled to resume its next round of public hearings on October 27, 2025.
