The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has initiated an investigation into claims of food distribution during the special voting exercise in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
The incident, which unfolded at the Legon Police Station, one of the special voting centers, involved Lydia Alhassan, the incumbent Member of Parliament and New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate.
Lydia Alhassan, along with her team, was reportedly seen distributing food packs to voters waiting in line.
This act has drawn sharp criticism from her political opponent, John Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate.
Dumelo denounced the act as illegal and a violation of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) regulations, emphasizing that such actions compromise the integrity of the voting process.
He further remarked that engaging in similar practices on a larger scale would be possible but detrimental to the fairness of the election.
The OSP’s investigation highlights concerns over adherence to election laws and the implications of such incidents on public trust in the electoral process.
