NOVA, a prominent Ghanaian oil marketing company under the CH Group, has taken a major step toward promoting green energy by donating clean cooking stoves to local food businesses in Weta, Volta Region.
This initiative not only aims to reduce carbon emissions but also supports the livelihoods of commercial food vendors by providing them with cleaner, more sustainable cooking alternatives.
NOVA’s donation aligns with Ghana’s national goal of achieving carbon neutrality and reducing the dependency on charcoal, a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, management of the company said.
During the donation ceremony held at the NOVA Weta fuel filling station, Managing Director, Kwasi Zigah, emphasized NOVA’s dedication to supporting the Government of Ghana’s vision for a greener future.
“Charcoal is carbon intensive, and using it for cooking contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. By donating clean cooking stoves, we’re helping businesses move away from charcoal, promoting sustainability, and empowering women in rural areas,” Zigah explained.
This initiative forms part of NOVA’s broader mission to bring clean energy solutions to local communities across Ghana.
In addition to the Weta donation, NOVA plans to expand this clean energy project to other stations under its brand, reinforcing its dedication to eco-friendly practices. The company is actively working toward Ghana’s target of reaching a 50% penetration rate for clean cooking energy by 2030.
Zigah stated that NOVA is proud to be part of this national endeavour, with clean cooking stoves now available to chop bars and community hotels, helping meet the government’s ambitious targets.
NOVA has also introduced a cylinder exchange program to make clean energy more accessible. Customers can exchange old cylinders for new ones filled with gas, paying only for the fuel. The company further ensures convenience by offering doorstep delivery of gas within minutes, making clean energy not only accessible but also practical for everyday use.
Ms. Mary Poasiegah, speaking on behalf of the recipients, expressed her gratitude for the donation. “These stoves are a huge help. With prices for everything going up, being able to receive clean cooking stoves at no cost is a big relief. NOVA’s gesture shows they care about our businesses and our community,” she said, highlighting the difference the stoves will make in their daily operations.
Operating under the trading name of Westol Petroleum Limited, NOVA runs ten fuel-filling stations across Ghana, with locations including Anyaa, Nsawam, Shama, and Takoradi Nsuaem. By leveraging the resources of the CH Group for importation, storage, and fuel transportation, NOVA offers quality fuel at competitive prices, aiming to serve Ghanaians with both value and environmental responsibility.
