Newmont Corporation, has paid over GH¢3.176 billion in tax payments to the government of Ghana.
The world’s leading gold producer and a key player in Ghana’s mining sector is one of the leading tax paying institutions in the country, contributing significantly to Ghana’s generally low tax revenue.
The tax payment covers the first half of 2024, primarily through its Ahafo and Akyem mines, covering royalties, levies, carried interest, and property rates.

These payments were directed to various government bodies, including the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), the Forestry Commission, and the Ministry of Finance. Additionally, District Assemblies within the regions where Newmont operates received portions of these funds, enhancing local governance and development efforts. These contributions are particularly vital as Ghana navigates ongoing economic challenges.
The Ahafo and Akyem mines are also contributing to local development through job creation, infrastructure improvements, and social investments in the areas where they operate.
Newmont’s continued commitment to these initiatives reinforces its reputation as a responsible corporate entity within Ghana’s extractive industry, the company says.
