Mr. Alex Kofi Annin, General Manager of Newmont Ahafo South Mine has said that the mine is projected to produce over 600,000 ounces of gold in 2025, after a strong performance in the previous year, when the mine produced more than 800,000 ounces.
He said that following the commencement of the mines in 2006, the Ahafo South Mine yielded a cumulative 9.6 million ounces of gold.
Mr. Annin emphasized Newmont’s contribution to the national economy, noting that the Ahafo Mine alone paid GHC7.5 billion in taxes in 2024. Collectively, Newmont’s operations in Ghana contributed GHC9.7 billion in taxes to the state that year.
“As the leading gold producer in Ghana, we remain committed to responsible mining practices and regulatory compliance. Our goal is to ensure that both government and host communities continue to benefit from our operations,” he said.
Annin said Newmont has also been recognized for its leadership in environmental sustainability and innovation. The Ahafo Mine recently received accolades from the Ghana Chamber of Mines for its efforts in decarbonization and technological advancements in mining.
He further said the Ahafo North Project, a greenfield development consisting of seven mineralized zones and 15 potential deposits, is scheduled to commence commercial production in the third quarter of 2025.
