The fate of young people who prefer the challenge of creating jobs rather than being employed, hangs in the balance as management of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), has suspended all staff members due to unresolved employment and salary-related issues.
In a statement, NEIP directed its employees not to report to work from Monday, February 24, 2025, until further notice.
According to the brief, NEIP’s management has been instructed to strictly follow due process in addressing staff employment regularization to prevent future legal complications. Once these issues are resolved, only staff whose services are deemed essential may be called back to work.
The statement further requested that all staff in possession of NEIP property must return them to the HR Officer by the close of work on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. Any failure to comply with this directive will be regarded as intentional theft of such items.

NEIP, established with the aim of supporting young entrepreneurs and fostering innovation in Ghana, has spearheaded several impactful programmes, including the Presidential Business Support Programme (PBSP), which provided funding and training to thousands of startups, and the Greenhouse Estate Project, aimed at promoting agricultural entrepreneurship through the cultivation of high-yield crops.
It is unclear if the new government will pursue the programme, redesign it or abandon it. Though considered a laudable project, it appeared partisan, diluting the impact it could have had on the youth. The objective of NEIP is to nurture entrepreneurship, create jobs, and drive economic growth by providing technical and financial support to emerging businesses across various sectors in the country.
