The Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) at Nkwanta Branch in the Oti Region has been shutdown due to community disturbances in the area.
The disturbances which occurred on Friday, January 17, 2025 has raised safety concerns, prompting the bank to take immediate precautionary measures.
In a news statement, the bank assured customers and the public that all staff members at the affected branch are safe and accounted for.
The bank says it is collaborating with security services to monitor the situation and will provide updates on when the branch will resume operations.
To mitigate the inconvenience caused by the closure, the bank has reminded customers that its nearby Kadjebi and Jasikan branches as well as its digital banking platforms, remain fully operational for all banking needs.
“GCB Bank PLC reaffirms its commitment to delivering value and exceptional service at all times. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused during the temporary closure,” the statement said.
While the bank did not detail the cause of the unrest, reports suggest that the disruptions stemmed from ongoing tensions over a chieftaincy dispute in the area.
The Ghana Police Service however in a statement says it has restored calm, law and order at Nkwanta and its environs with the deployment of reinforcement teams to support the regional command.
