The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has pledged to preserve the economic and cultural heritage of Ghana’s music industry as it mourns the passing of one of the country’s most iconic musicians, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.
In a solemn tribute, MUSIGA described Lumba as not just a celebrated musician but a towering figure whose artistic brilliance significantly shaped Ghana’s cultural identity and contributed to the commercial evolution of the local music scene.
His legacy, the union noted, is woven deeply into the fabric of Ghana’s music space.
Leading a delegation to personally commiserate with the bereaved family, President of MUSIGA, Bessa Simons, noted that Daddy Lumba’s legacy will live forever in the hearts of Ghanaians.
He added that his music uplifted generations and brought joy to countless souls.
Simons emphasized that Lumba’s career demonstrated how music could empower livelihoods, shape national identity, and inspire social change.
“Daddy Lumba’s legacy will live forever in the hearts of Ghanaians. His music uplifted a generation and brought joy to countless souls. We stand united in support of his family, and we pray for strength and peace for his beloved wife and children during this time of profound grief,” he indicated.
As such, MUSIGA is committing to intensifying efforts in promoting structures that support the protection of Ghana’s music heritage, which includes intellectual property rights, artist development, music exports, and financial sustainability within the industry.
The union further noted that as the nation prepares for vigils and memorial events to celebrate the life of the highlife legend, MUSIGA has called on all industry stakeholders to rally behind policies and initiatives that solidify music as a pillar of national development.
The Union also appealed to the public and media to respect the privacy of Daddy Lumba’s family as they navigate this difficult period, while encouraging Ghanaians to honor his legacy by supporting the growth of the industry he helped build.
For now, Daddy Lumba’s rhythms may have fallen silent, but the economic and cultural significance of his work will echo for generations. It is anticipated that MUSIGA stands ready to ensure that its contribution continues to inspire a stronger, more structured music ecosystem in Ghana.
