MTN Group will participate in MWC Barcelona 2026 from 2 to 5 March at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, joining global telecom operators, technology firms, policymakers and investors as the industry defines the next phase of digital infrastructure and services.
Convened by the GSMA, MWC Barcelona marks its 20th edition in the Catalan capital and remains the sector’s flagship forum on connectivity, digital infrastructure and the evolving digital economy.
In a first for the company at the event, MTN will exhibit from its own stand in Hall 4, creating a dedicated platform for engagement on Africa’s infrastructure build-out, regulatory priorities and partnership frameworks required to strengthen the continent’s digital and AI readiness.
Under this year’s theme, “The IQ Era,” MWC Barcelona 2026 will focus on AI-enabled connectivity, next-generation networks and the systems required to make digital transformation durable, secure and scalable. For African markets, AI readiness will hinge on core fundamentals, resilient network infrastructure, affordable access, skills development and regulatory certainty that supports sustained capital deployment.
MTN said its participation reflects a continued strategic focus on strengthening these foundations through ongoing network investment, the expansion of digital and financial services, and collaborative models aimed at extending reach while reducing barriers to inclusion.
Group President and Chief Executive Officer Ralph Mupita will lead the delegation in his capacity as Deputy Chair of the GSMA. He is expected to participate in high-level leadership discussions examining the enabling role of telecommunications infrastructure within AI ecosystems.
His engagements will centre on the infrastructure backbone and governance frameworks required to support responsible AI adoption at scale, particularly across emerging markets where digital transformation must be underpinned by sustainable investment models.
MTN’s broader executive team will contribute to specialist dialogues spanning fintech innovation, digital trust and online safety, as well as partnership models designed to accelerate network coverage, enhance resilience and build confidence in digital platforms.
MTN has invited partners, investors, media and stakeholders attending MWC Barcelona 2026 to engage with its team in Hall 4 to discuss how Africa’s digital future is being constructed and the collaborative mechanisms needed to ensure that the AI era expands opportunity rather than deepening structural divides.
