MTN, in collaboration with Microsoft, has completed the full migration of its Enterprise Value Analytics (EVA) system to Microsoft Azure, marking a major leap in Africa’s digital infrastructure transformation. The modernised EVA 3.0 platform is now the largest telco cloud implementation in the Middle East and Africa, processing billions of data records daily while driving operational efficiency, intelligent automation, and customer experience innovation across MTN’s markets.
Built on Microsoft Azure Databricks and protected by Microsoft Defender, EVA 3.0 processes over 22 billion records each day and runs more than 800 analytics workflows drawn from over 1,700 data feeds. The migration represents a breakthrough in speed, scalability, and security, giving MTN real-time insight into service performance and customer behaviour. This enables the company to resolve issues faster, design more relevant products, and ensure high service reliability for millions of subscribers.
“Our customers expect reliability, relevance, and responsiveness in every interaction with us; understanding our vast amounts of data and extracting meaningful insights in a timely manner has always been central to how we deliver that experience,” said Nikos Angelopoulos, MTN Group Chief Information Officer. “With EVA 3.0, we’re expanding those capabilities – analysing information more quickly, applying intelligence more effectively, and safeguarding it through advanced cloud security. Working with Microsoft, we’ve built a resilient platform that supports responsible AI and ensures we continue to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”
The upgraded system forms the analytics backbone of MTN’s digital operations, transforming how the company interprets and applies data across markets. It also serves as a replicable model for data modernisation across MTN Group’s 19 markets, setting a new standard for digital transformation in Africa’s telecommunications sector.
“MTN’s adoption of Azure for its analytics backbone demonstrates what’s possible when global technology and local expertise work together,” said Alkis Flemetakis, Telco Account Director at Microsoft. “This collaboration is unlocking deeper insights, strengthening data protection, and accelerating digital transformation across the continent.”
Rick Lievano, Microsoft’s Worldwide Chief Technology Officer for Telecommunications, highlighted the broader industry implications, noting that artificial intelligence and big data analytics are “at the heart of telco transformation, enabling operators to optimise networks, enhance resilience, and create new value through predictive and personalised services.”
MTN’s Azure migration is supported by the Group’s Cloud Centre of Excellence and a continent-wide engineering network that achieved more Microsoft Azure certifications in 2025 than any other organisation in Africa. With over 1,350 certifications attained, the milestone underscores MTN’s sustained investment in cloud expertise and its commitment to developing Africa’s next generation of digital talent.
As Angelopoulos noted, MTN’s collaboration with Microsoft demonstrates how “global partnerships can translate into local impact,” ensuring that Africa’s digital future is built on intelligence, trust, and connectivity.
