MTN Ghana says it is intensifying efforts to improve data quality control across its network as part of a broader strategy to deliver consistent and reliable services nationwide.
According to the company’s Chief Information Officer, Bernard Acquah, maintaining high data quality and service reliability remains central to the telecom giant’s operations, particularly as demand for digital connectivity continues to surge across the country.
“In general terms, MTN, as our slogan says, is everywhere you go. So really our intention is that we should be everywhere for our customers to reach out,” he said.
Mr. Acquah explained that data quality control within the telecom space goes beyond internal systems and extends directly to customer experience.
He noted that network performance, speed, and accessibility are critical indicators of how well data systems are functioning.
He acknowledged that there are still gaps in service quality in certain parts of the country but stressed that the company is taking deliberate steps to address these challenges through targeted infrastructure investments.
“Whenever we find out that maybe our service is not at the right level in particular parts of the country, then we endeavour to make sure that we expand our network to capture that,” he stated.
The approach, he said, reflects a proactive data-driven strategy, where performance metrics and customer feedback are continuously monitored to identify weak spots. These insights then inform network upgrades and expansion plans to ensure more uniform service delivery.
Industry analysts say data quality control has become increasingly critical in Ghana’s telecom sector, where competition and rising consumer expectations are pushing operators to prioritise reliability and speed.
Poor data quality can lead to dropped connections, slow internet speeds, and inconsistent user experiences issues that can significantly impact customer satisfaction and business performance.
At MTN Ghana, ensuring high-quality data also supports the company’s broader digital ecosystem, including mobile money services, enterprise solutions, and emerging digital platforms.
Reliable data systems are essential for safeguarding transactions, maintaining uptime, and enabling seamless communication.
Mr. Acquah revealed that the company has set “very ambitious targets” for network rollout this year, aimed at closing coverage gaps and strengthening service delivery in underserved areas.
While he did not disclose specific figures, industry observers expect telecom operators to increase investments in infrastructure such as cell sites, fibre networks, and advanced monitoring systems to enhance data integrity and performance.
The renewed focus on data quality control also aligns with Ghana’s digitalisation agenda, which relies heavily on stable and accessible telecommunications infrastructure to drive economic growth, innovation, and financial inclusion.
As telecom usage continues to expand—fuelled by remote work, digital services, and mobile financial transactions ensuring consistent data quality is expected to remain a top priority for operators.
For MTN Ghana, the message is clear: strengthening data quality is not just a technical requirement but a business imperative tied directly to customer trust and market leadership.
With planned network expansions and a data-driven approach to service improvement, the company aims to reinforce its position as a leading provider in Ghana’s telecommunications landscape while delivering on its promise of being accessible “everywhere you go.”
