The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched an initiative to secure employment opportunities for Ghanaians being evacuated from South Africa, as part of efforts to support their economic reintegration and reduce the financial pressures associated with return migration.
The ministry announced that it has already secured 120 job opportunities through commitments from Ghanaian business owners and entrepreneurs, describing the intervention as a practical response to the employment and livelihood challenges that often confront returning citizens.
In a public appeal, the ministry called on Ghanaian CEOs and entrepreneurs interested in offering employment opportunities to returning citizens from South Africa to engage its Delivery Unit, led by Ambassador Alexander Grant Ntrakwa.
The initiative seeks to facilitate the transition of affected citizens into productive economic activity, helping to preserve skills, sustain household incomes and contribute to national development objectives. Connecting returnees with available vacancies is intended to minimise the risk of unemployment and support broader efforts to enhance labour market participation.
Officials indicated that the programme has already attracted support from what the ministry described as “patriotic Ghanaian business owners,” reflecting growing private-sector involvement in addressing socio-economic challenges facing returning migrants.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it “values and cherishes all” Ghanaian citizens and called on more business leaders to support the initiative by offering employment opportunities to qualified returnees from South Africa.
Interested employers have been asked to contact the ministry’s Delivery Unit to participate in the programme.
