MTN Ghana has reiterated its commitment to supporting national youth employment efforts by equipping young people with digital skills and tools to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
Speaking at the 10th Youth Empowerment Summit in Tamale, Madam Antoinette Kwofie, Chief Finance Officer of MTN Ghana, said the company was making strategic investments in digital training programmes such as the MTN Skills Academy, designed to prepare young people for the demands of the job market.
She encouraged the youth to leverage digital platforms not only for personal development but also as a pathway to employment and entrepreneurship.
“By embracing digital skills, young people can position themselves as job creators and problem-solvers for the nation,” Madam Kwofie stated.
The summit, themed “Amplifying Youth Voices, Building Legacies”, attracted students from secondary and tertiary institutions, youth groups, and development partners.
The platform offered mentorship, career guidance, and opportunities for young people to network with industry leaders.
In line with Ghana’s broader youth employment agenda, Madam Kwofie urged participants to invest in knowledge and skills that would make them responsible citizens capable of contributing to national development.
The event also recognised students, individuals, and organisations for their contributions to youth empowerment through the Martha Inspires Foundation, which has been driving mentorship and career support for a decade.
The National Youth Authority (NYA), a key partner of the summit, used the platform to encourage young people to take advantage of government interventions aimed at preparing them for the future world of work.
Alhaji Inusah Mahama, Deputy CEO of NYA, stressed that aligning with private sector initiatives like MTN’s digital training programmes would accelerate Ghana’s goal of reducing youth unemployment.
Other speakers, including Reverend Aaron Lambon Fant, advised participants to adopt discipline, set career goals, and pursue ventures that contribute to national productivity rather than short-term gratification.
Miss Martha Anabilla, Executive Director of the Martha Inspires Foundation, recounted the organisation’s 10-year journey of empowering young people through training, mentorship, and exposure. She reaffirmed her commitment to holistic youth development, calling for continuous support from stakeholders to expand opportunities for young people across the country.
“The future of Ghana’s workforce depends on the investments we make in our young people today,” she said.
Students and youth participants described the summit as a launching pad for informed career decisions and a springboard for employment opportunities. Miss Mohammed Asana, a student of Tamale Girls’ Senior High School, said the summit provided the confidence and exposure needed to prepare for future career paths.
