MTN Ghana has launched its annual 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign, with this year’s edition focused on “Digital Inclusion at the Roots.”
The initiative, which runs across all MTN operating countries, mobilizes employees to volunteer in community development projects aimed at driving digital skills, inclusion, and empowerment.
Speaking at the launch event, MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett emphasized the company’s deep commitment to social impact through volunteerism, highlighting that this year’s program will see staff actively engaged in projects across all regions of Ghana.
“This year, we’re focusing on upgrading facilities, teaching digital skills, and helping people and small businesses connect to the digital world,” Mr. Blewett said.
“Whether it’s giving small businesses a web presence or training the youth in digital and tech skills, our goal is to uplift communities and empower the next generation,” he added.
He noted that MTN tracks the long-term impact of its Y’ello Care projects through regular follow-ups and evaluations. “For me, the most fulfilling part of my job is seeing the real difference these initiatives make in people’s lives,” he said.
Beyond the 21 Days of Y’ello Care, Mr. Blewett reaffirmed MTN’s commitment to network quality and sustainability.
He announced that the company will exceed its initial 2025 capital investment plan, spending over $300 million this year alone to enhance network infrastructure.
“We’ll surpass our original target of $250 million and hit over $1 billion in total investment over five years. Our goal is to deliver the best quality service because Ghanaians deserve nothing less,” he stated.
On sustainability, Mr. Blewett highlighted MTN’s ongoing transition to renewable energy solutions, including solar-powered data centers and offices. “We have to lead by example. Even I’m transitioning to an electric vehicle,” he said.
Mr. Stephen Dzelu, Technical Director, Ministry of Climate Change and Sustainability, praised MTN Ghana for its leadership in digital empowerment and sustainability.
“MTN is not just connecting people; it is transforming lives, the company’s longstanding partnerships with communities and schools underscore its role as a true agent of change,” he said.
Mr. Dzelu said “this year’s focus on digital inclusion aligns perfectly with our national sustainability goals.”
He also called on other businesses and stakeholders to emulate MTN’s model by investing in long-term community partnerships and supporting digital transformation across Ghana.
Mr. Dzelu encouraged Ghanaians to actively participate in the 21 Days of Y’ello Care challenge, which includes televised activities and community projects over the next month.
“Let’s all get involved. Volunteer, contribute ideas, and support this national effort to build a more inclusive and sustainable Ghana,” he urged.
