Telecommunications market leader MTN Ghana will suspend all Mobile Money (MoMo) services for six hours in the early hours of Sunday, August 17, 2025, to facilitate a major system upgrade.
The planned maintenance, scheduled from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., will render all MoMo-related transactions temporarily unavailable. This includes money transfers, deposits, withdrawals, bill payments, and wallet-to-bank transactions.
Charles Asamoah Assah, Chief Technology and Service Delivery Officer at Mobile Money Limited, said the exercise is aimed at enhancing the platform’s reliability and performance.
“Please be informed of a planned system upgrade on 17th August 2025, from 12 midnight to 6 a.m. During this period, all Mobile Money services will be unavailable. This upgrade is to improve our services to you,” Assah stated.
He stressed that the temporary suspension is necessary for technicians to “complete the upgrade smoothly and ensure more efficient service delivery going forward.”
Assah also extended an apology to customers for the inconvenience, adding;
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.”
MTN Ghana is urging its over 14 million MoMo users to complete all urgent transactions ahead of the downtime to avoid disruption.
The move underscores the telco’s ongoing investment in digital infrastructure as competition intensifies in Ghana’s fast-growing mobile payments market.
