A new consumer promotion by Nestle Ghana Limited is offering a mix of rewards aimed at families, children and individual consumers, ranging from cash and household items to education support, bicycles and an electric vehicle.
The Milo Energy to Start promotion will give consumers opportunities to win cash, refrigerators, smart watches, footballs, bicycles and other prizes. It also includes education scholarships and an electric vehicle, giving the promotion a wider range of potential benefits for households.
Nestlé Ghana says more than two million consumers and families are expected to be reached through the promotion.
For households, the benefits could take different forms. A cash prize can help meet an immediate expense, while a refrigerator or other household item could reduce the need for a major purchase. For children, the bicycles and education scholarships provide more direct support.
Education is one of the key components of the promotion. Thirty families will receive scholarships worth GH¢10,000 each, bringing the total scholarship package to GH¢300,000.
Myron Otoo, Category Manager for Beverages and Other Dairy at Nestlé Ghana Limited, said the scholarship was designed with the children of winning consumers in mind.
“If a mother enters the promotion and wins, you look beyond her to the children,” he told The High Street Journal.
He explained that parents normally carry the cost of educating their children, meaning the scholarship can help reduce some of the financial pressures on families during the school year.
Supporting children beyond the classroom
Otoo said the education component also fits into Milo’s wider focus on children’s development through sport and other activities.
He described sport as “a great teacher”, noting that it can help children develop values and skills that complement what they learn in school.
The promotion includes bicycles and footballs, which could encourage children to remain active while giving them opportunities to participate in sport.
The combination of education and sporting activities, Otoo said, is intended to support the development of children beyond academic performance.
Benefits for the wider household
The promotion is not limited to children or education.
Cash prizes and household appliances can provide practical benefits to families, while smart watches and other items offer additional rewards to individual consumers.
This means the impact will vary from one winner to another. For one household, a cash prize could help meet an immediate need. For another, a refrigerator could replace an expense that might otherwise have been necessary.
The range of prizes also means that participation is not tied to a single type of consumer need.
An electric vehicle adds a green dimension
The promotion’s electric vehicle prize brings another element into the campaign.
Otoo said the decision to include an EV was linked to the growing move towards cleaner transportation.
The vehicle comes with a warranty covering its first 20,000 kilometres, which he said would help reduce the immediate financial burden on the winner.
The environmental benefit is also part of the consideration. Electric vehicles produce no tailpipe emissions, potentially helping to reduce local air pollution compared with conventional vehicles.
For the winner, the immediate benefit will be access to a vehicle. More broadly, the prize gives consumers greater exposure to electric mobility at a time when interest in cleaner forms of transportation is increasing.
A range of benefits for consumers
The promotion therefore spreads its potential benefits across several areas of household life.
For some families, the most important reward may be education support. For others, it could be cash, a household appliance or a bicycle for a child. The electric vehicle adds a further dimension through cleaner mobility.
While the scholarship component is limited to 30 families, Nestlé Ghana says the wider promotion is expected to reach more than two million consumers and families.
