The Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), Mrs Justina Nelson, has called on women in Ghana’s financial and natural resource sectors to lead with “courage and integrity,” emphasising the importance of resilience and principled leadership in advancing institutional and national development agendas.
Addressing participants at the maiden Women in Finance Summit in Accra, Mrs. Nelson emphasized that resilience is a crucial leadership attribute, particularly in periods of institutional change and heightened public expectations. She noted that challenging moments should not weaken leaders but instead provide opportunities to strengthen their resolve and deliver sustainable value for organisations and stakeholders.
Mrs Nelson, who became MIIF CEO amid significant organisational reforms and legislative shifts affecting the sovereign fund’s revenue base, highlighted that leadership grounded in discipline and innovation can turn adversity into a strategic advantage. Drawing on her more than two decades of experience in banking and financial services, she reiterated that values such as discipline, integrity, and a commitment to excellence remain central to the effective stewardship of public resources.
The MIIF boss also connected her call to broader efforts to deepen gender inclusion across Ghana’s key economic sectors. In recent engagements, she has advocated for deeper gender inclusion and empowerment within the mining value chain, arguing that a more inclusive sector strengthens productivity, innovation, and governance.
Under Mrs. Nelson’s leadership, MIIF has pursued institutional reforms, enhanced governance practices, and expanded initiatives such as the Women from Mining Communities (WoMCom) scholarship scheme to support economically disadvantaged female students pursuing STEM and mining‑related disciplines.
The MIIF CEO’s statements highlight the fund’s dedication to channeling Ghana’s mineral revenues toward long-term national benefits, underpinned by governance anchored in transparency, accountability, and sustainability.
